Congratulations to everyone who set a new Guinness World Record on Sunday!

Despite the rain and mud, 215 people ran 5k linked together at Croxteth Park, breaking the old record of 190.

The record attempt was organised by our Charity, with support from Matalan. Staff and parents joined celebrity supporters Shirley Ballas, Denise Van Outen and Mark Wright in completing the course linked together using elasticated rope in 1 hour, 2 minutes and 2 seconds.

The record was part of our Charity’s inaugural 5K PJ fun run, sponsored by Matalan. A further 300 people ran the alternative 5k Fun Run too with prams, dogs and wheelchairs, including many of our amazing young patients, every one of them sponsored and raising money for our charity.

Louise Shepherd said; “I am so proud of everyone who came out, in their PJs, in the rain to set a new Guinness World Record on Sunday. This is the first time Alder Hey has been a record breaker. A massive well done to everyone involved.”

Adam Dixon, Community Fundraiser at Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:

“What an amazing day! It sounds so good to be official Guinness Word Record holders!  I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came down and completed the run. It was so much fun and more importantly we have raised lots of money for Alder Hey.”

The record attempt was part of the campaign for this year’s annual Alder Hey and Matalan collaboration, which is themed #TogetherforAlderHey and which was launched last Thursday. Since 2014, Matalan have raised an amazing £2.7m for Alder Hey.

Well done!
