An exciting new ‘Woodland Walk’ within Springfield Park will be launched this weekend, as part of a programme of Easter fun hosted by Alder Hey for the community.
On Saturday 13th April (12pm – 1pm) an Easter Egg Hunt in the Park will take place to mark the opening of the ‘Woodland Walk’, which includes a Health and Well-being Nature Trail featuring 15 activity stations encouraging visitors to interact with, care for and learn about the natural environment.
Activities aimed at boosting health and wellbeing range from an introduction to yoga and meditation, through to facilitating HIIT fitness sessions. Other installations along the walk provide a fun and interactive guide to surrounding plants, trees and wildlife and there’s even a specially designed ‘Book Bench’ where people can relax and read in the sunshine before sharing their favourite books for others to enjoy.
The Woodland Walk project was funded by Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with major support from The Veolia Environmental Trust who fund a wide range of community and environmental projects throughout England and Wales.
Alan French, Trusts and Foundations Partnerships Manager at Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “We are extremely grateful to Veolia Environmental Trust for their amazing support which has helped make this area of parkland accessible to our young patients, staff and all members of the local community. The Woodland Walk is a key development for Springfield Park and has been created through extensive consultation between Alder Hey and local community groups and schools. We are sure that this project will have a hugely positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the people of Liverpool for many years to come.”
The launch of the Woodland Walk is the highlight of Easter events taking place for the local community within Springfield Park. On Friday 12th April between 11am and 2pm, visitors to the Park are invited to take part in ‘community planting‘ to help plant seeds, fruit trees and herbs. There will then be a Springfield Park Spring Clean on Saturday 13th April (10.30am-12pm) before the Woodland Walk launch and Easter Egg Hunt in the afternoon.
